Tshwene, the Tshwana word for "Baboon"

26 April 2016

Tshwene is the Tshwana word for "Baboon". Every night a huge herd of baboons sleep here in the waterberry trees. Tshwene is a bush camp hidden in a gorge with a beautiful view of a lake and forest-covered hills in the distance. The soothing atmosphere around a rooibos-camp fire is always a bushveld highlight. The baboons go crazy when a leopard walks past here at night. They can´t see very well at night and they know leopards can climb trees just as well as they can. Many times before we have been awakened down in the main camp by the hysterical barking of baboons. In the summer times there is a beautiful fountain just above the bush camp pumping the clearest water. The fountain quickly fills the dams, overflowing into the valley creek which in turn feeds the Tambotie river.
