Brown-veined White butterfly facts

Did you know?

 

  1. Brown-veined White butterflies Belenois aurota aurota suck moisture from wet sand.
  2. The wings of the butterflies show the characteristic half-moon black spot on the upper side.
  3. The edges of the females´ wings are darker than those of the males.
  4. This type of butterfly migrates annually in large numbers from the Kalahari and they then move south and east over South Africa, somtimes reaching Madagascar. These migrations also occur in East Africa and Asia.
  5. The larvae feed on shepherd´s trees Boscia albitrunca and also other trees.
