Wild cat or domesticated cat?

10 July 2014

QUESTION:

Is this a wild cat or simply a domesticated cat?

ANSWER:

This shows what seems to be a hybrid between an African wild cat and a domesticated cat. African wild cats have short forelegs and cannot sit upright as this cat does. There also is too much white on the forelegs and body to be a pure wild cat but African wild cats and domesticated cats hybridize readily. The first characteristic to disappear in a hybrid is the red behind the ears of a wild cat but the colour of the back of the ears is not visible as it was not taken in daylight although it is most likely to be a hybrid.
