SHAYAMANZI
Part 1 of the Shayamanzi story (www.leopard.tv)
By Jannie Parsons

Part 1 of 2: Shayamanzi means “Hit the water”.

Shayamanzi is situated in the Bushveld, among mountains and mountain streams. Water is the source of life and becomes the focus of Shayamanzi.

Mysterious leopards found their home and walking space at Shayamanzi, but they avoid humans. It takes several years for humans and leopards to find and trust one another at Shayamanzi. People decided to give one big secret to the leopards: “Love”. But it should reflect in their eyes. Zaza and Ziana started to disperse this secret, which they saw in the eyes of the people at Shayamanzi. Over the years and during the nights they roared it from the mountains. The wild leopards that visit the two beautiful sisters at the camps started to disperse the message of love throughout the Bushveld. However, it takes very long before the leopards share their hypnotic secret with the people at Shayamanzi. Leopards aren’t keen to share eye contact with humans. People are taught from very young that if you look the leopard in the eye the leopard becomes angry and aggressive and he could jump at you and shred you to pieces. After hours of bonding next to the camps, Zaza and Ziana gave away an age-old leopard secret. If you can manage to stare into their eyes for some time and your eyes reflect honest love, the leopards will make eye contact and keep it. They almost hypnotise you.

Why did they start hiding their secrets in their eyes? People saw their beauty, became jealous, greedy and started to desire those attributes. They started to believe that they should kill the leopards and hang their beautiful furs around them, should eat their eyes and even of their meat in order to become as strong, with a beautiful skin and stunning eyes. That is the reason why leopards started to roar when people sought their beautiful eyes. Leopards knew that their eyes could mesmerise humans to the point where it could lead to the death of leopards.
